Op de vooravond van de kroning ben ik maar weer eens een rondje gaan maken op de hei. Het bleek de avond van de Torenvalk te zijn. Soms zie ik er wekenlang niet één, vandaag maar liefst 6 op verschillende locaties. Op de eerste foto een jagend vrouwtje. 'Biddend' spuurt ze de heide af, zich af en toe een paar meter verplaatsend.

On the evening before the coronation of our new king I went for a round outdoors. It turned out to be the night of the Kestrel. Sometimes I don't see any for weeks, today 6 different individuals on different locations. In the first picture a hunting female. 'praying' above the heathland she's looking for prey, changing position from time to time.

Dit mannetje, duidelijk te herkennen aan de grijs blauwe kop en ongebandeerde grijsblauwe stuit, zat te jagen vanaf de top van een dode boom en dook even later tussen de heide op de grond om een muis te pakken en laag over de grond weg te vliegen. Dit ging helaas te snel voor mij om mijn belichting aan te kunnen passen.

This adult male, clearly recognizable by its grey-blue head and single-banded tail, was hunting from the top of a dead tree. Minute later it dove for a mouse between the heath below and flew away. Unfortunately this al went so fast that I couldn't change my settings to adjust for the darker background.

Deze Reegeit met kale neus lag rustig te herkauwen vlak langs het pad, ik was er in eerste instantie voorbij gelopen. Toen ik me omdraaide en een paar foto's maakte stond ze toch maar rustig op om weg te lopen.

This female Roe Deer with bald nose was lying next to the path, comfortably chewing her meal. I didn't see it and walked past it at first When I turned around to take a photo she decided it was time to leave.

In de late avondzon zit deze Buizerd mij goed in de gaten te houden. Zelfs op grote afstand had hij me al lang in de gaten met zijn ongelooflijke goeie gezichtsvermogen. Mooi zoals hij hier onder de tak door gluurt om mij te kunnen zien.

In the late evening sun this Buzzard is keeping an eye on me. Even though I'm at a great distance it already spotted me with its fantastic eyesight. Nice, the way it peeks under the branch to see me.

Ik besluit de avond met een koninklijk tintje, althans, dat doet de zon voor me. De heldere lucht kleurt werkelijk knal oranje in de ondergaande zon. Géén photoshop voor nodig, en na alle commotie over het koningslied kan ik zelfs in deze foto niet om de W van Willem heen, of was het stamppot? ;-)

The evening ends with a royal flavor. ("orange" is in our royal family name and is our country's color next to the red white and blue) The clear sky colors a bright orange as the sun sets. No photoshop needed here. In the trees I can 't help to see the 'W' of our new kings name Willem-Alexander. There was a lot of criticism about a royal song that was written for the occasion in which the letter W was used in a 'wrong' way in a sentence which was kind of funny... In dutch anyway ;-)
