Een typisch Hollandse sombere grauwe winterdag als vandaag nodigt niet echt uit om op pad te gaan, maar omdat ik weet dat achteraf de bevrediging altijd groter is dan wanneer je thuis blijft ga ik toch maar op pad.
Het heeft behoorlijk geregend afgelopen tijd en de paden zijn één groot blubberbad, het licht is waardeloos en de wind is snijdend koud, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken.
Vrijwel direct zie ik een vrouwtje Blauwe Kiekendief vliegen over het ondergelopen drassige land, dat begint goed...

A typically Dutch grey winter day like today os not very inviting to go out but, I know that in hindsight satisfaction is always greater than expected I nevertheless decide to take my chances. A lot of rain has fallen lately and turned everything into a mud bath. The terrible light and piercing cold wind won't hold me back. Almost immediately I spot a female Hen Harrier flying low above a drowned field. That;s a promising start...

Een groepje Zwanen vliegt recht op me af, Wilde Zwanen blijkt even later. Zeldzaam, maar regelmatige en graag geziene wintergasten in Nederland uit het hoge noorden.

De Koniks zijn altijd een goede reden om naar de OVP te gaan. En onder deze weersomstandigheden een stuk beter te fotograferen dan vogels. Ze zijn fotogeniek en altijd een erg dankbaar, vaak goed te benaderen foto onderwerp. Al helpt het wel als ze een beetje actief zijn. Geen heftige gevechten dit keer, maar in ieder geval een beetje röring.

Konik Horses always draw me back to the Oostvaardersplassen. Under these conditions they are a lot easier to photograph than birds. They are photogenic and a great subject because they are easily approachable. It does help if they are a bit active. No fierce fighting today, just a bit of playing around but some nice shots anyway.

Ook de Edelherten zijn na enig speurwerk te vinden. Ontdaan van hun gewei zoeken ze in de winter beschutting op in het bos, of liever, in wat er van over is. Als ze niet bewegen zijn ze nog best lastig te spotten. En ze hebben mij natuurlijk allang gezien...
