Zomerdag.../Summertime...

Een prachtige zomeravond om naar de hei te gaan. Helaas is het niet zo best gesteld met de hei door grootschalige aantasting door de Heidehaantjes waar ik al eerder over schreef, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Her en der is nog een vleugje paars te vinden als achtergrond voor mijn foto's. Er zijn volop Reeën te vinden en de eerste bok, staat op zijn dooie gemak naast het fietspad te grazen als ik de hei op fiets.

A beautiful summer evening to go out in the heath. Unfortunately the Heather isn't in good shape due to the devastation of the Heather Beetle which I wrote about before, but that can't spoil the fun. Here and there there's still some purple color to be found as a backdrop for my photos. There's plenty of Roe Deer around as subjects and the first buck presents itself right next to the cycle path as I arrive.

Ik stap van mijn fiets en ga rustig zitten achter een boom uit de wind, en na een tijdje komt hij steeds dichterbij. Hij heeft me allang gezien en waarschijnlijk herkend. Deze bok is een oude bekende met zijn enkele gewei tak.

I step of my bike and sit quietly behind a tree out of the wind, and after a while it gets closer and closer. It has seen me and probably recognizes me as I do him with its single antler.

Zijn voorkeur lijkt uit te gaan naar jonge Berkenboom blaadjes - It seems to prefer leaves of young Birch trees 

Een eind verderop doet een groepje Groenlingen zich te goed aan de knalrode bessen van de Lijsterbes.

Further along the road a group of Greenfinches are eating the red berries of the Mountain Ash.

Op éen van de weinige overgebleven stukken paarse heide komt deze Reebok aangerend - In one of the last remaining patches of purple heather, this Roebuck comes running in my direction

Ah, daar is ze...- Ah, there she is... 

Deze Boomvalk doet zich te goed aan de rondvliegende insecten. Hij eet ze op in de lucht en keert telkens terug naar zijn uitkijkpost in de Berk.

This Eurasian Hobby is feeding on Insects that are flying around. It eats them in flight and returns to its favorite lookout post in a Birch tree.
