Vanavond was het erg rustig aan de plas. Gewoon maar genieten van de rust op deze prachtige windstille avond dan maar. Een enkele Groenpootruiter liet zich in de buurt zien. De rest zat allemaal erg ver weg.

Na enige tijd zie ik een Steltloper die wel erg hoog op zijn poten staat, en enige opwinding maakt zich van mij meester. Een Steltkluut! Nu ben ik niet echt een soorten fetisjist, maar deze sierlijke vogel stond al een tijdje hoog op mijn verlanglijstje. Mooie ontdekking, deze zeldzame gracieuze verschijning in ons land. Zo bijzonder dat vogelaar Ton die even later arriveerde zelfs een collega spotter belde om nog even te komen kijken voor de zon onderging. Helaas geen spectaculaire foto's, maar wel een mooie ervaring rijker. Op onderstaande foto is goed te zien hoe hoog hij op zijn opvallend rode poten staat.

After a while I see a stilt which is really high on its legs, and I get excited. A Black-winged Stilt! I'm not really a species fetishist, but this elegant bird was on my wish list for some time. A nice discovery in our country, this rare graceful apearance. It's so special that birder Ton, who arrives at the site minutes after my discovery, even calls a colleague birder to tell him the news. The photo's are far from spectacular, but I enjoyed the experience. In the photos you can see how 'high' it stands on its legs compared to the Greenshank.
